WHEREAS, in 1975, Piqua City Schools announced the arrival and hire of Superintendent Duane Bachman; and
WHEREAS, following his graduation from Minister High School in 1954, Duane continued his education at Ohio Northern University, receiving his Bachelor of Science-Elementary Education degree, followed with a Master of Education degree from Bowling Green State University; and
WHEREAS, Duane has been married to his wonderful wife, Mary Jane Bachman for 55 years and together they raised 8 children; Kathy, Kevin, Keith, Kayleen, Kendra, Kirk, Kyle and Kory and they have also been blessed with 18 grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Duane’s passion for education has led him to receive countless awards such as: the National High School Sports Publication Award, the Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce Achievement Award, Southwest District Athletic Board Award, OHSAA Media Service Awards, NSPRA/Ohio Crystal Award-Finalist and Award of Merit-Annual Report; Honorable Mention-Proud of Piqua’s Youth and these are just to name a few of the long list of awards and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Duane’s support of higher education is evidenced by his many contributions to organizations and various affiliations such as Chairman of Community Affairs and Safety Council with the Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce; President of the Board for American Cancer Society, Board of Trustee for Piqua Arts Council, Emcee for the Gala Event for Miami County Hospice, Board of Directors for Miami County YMCA, President of Piqua Optimist Club, Buckeye Association of School Administrators, Dayton Area Superintendent’s Association and the ever so famous voice for Miami County-WPTW Radio Voice and Director of Sports and Color commentator; and again, these are just a few of the long list of contributions to our community; and
WHEREAS, today we gather to celebrate the fact that Duane Bachman.will have graced those around him with 80 years of life, spirit, and joy on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.
LET IT BE KNOWN THAT I, as Mayor of the City of Piqua, do by the power granted me through my election to this office, declare Wednesday, June 29, 2016 as:
DUANE BACHMAN DAY
in the City of Piqua and request all friends and citizens to respect and honor this remarkable man.
