WHEREAS, the City of Piqua will be host to several CISV delegates the week of June 19th, 2016 through July 14, 2016; and
WHEREAS, CISV International is a global organization dedicated to educating and inspiring our youth for peace through building intercultural friendship, cooperation and understanding and was founded in 1950; and
WHEREAS, delegates from Brazil, Canada, China, El Salvador, Finland, France, Germany, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Italy and from the USA
WHEREAS, the theme of this year’s Village is: Box of Chocolates Village with CISV’s focus being on sustainability in which they will learn about chocolate and coffee production; and
WHEREAS, the children visiting will be learning about educational principles, programs and activities in this innovative, fun, non-formal peace educational program; and
WHEREAS, some of the principles will be to appreciate the similarities between people and value their difference, to support social justice and equality of opportunity for all, to encourage the resolution of conflict through peaceful means; and to support the creation of sustainable solutions to problems relating to our impact upon each other and the natural environment; and
WHEREAS, these principles then tie directly into the four educational content areas and each area is addressed and taught using the experiential learning cycle; and
WHEREAS, conversations about Diversity, Human Rights, Conflict and Resolution and Sustainable Development will all be discussed and from there, resolution ideas will be formed; and
WHEREAS, CISV educates and inspires action for a more just and peaceful world and the City of Piqua wishes to welcome the delegates to our hometown of Piqua, Ohio.
NOW, THEREFORE, I Kathryn B. Hinds, Mayor of the City of Piqua, Ohio, do hereby proclaim July 14, 2106 as
in the City of Piqua and ask our citizens to welcome all the delegates to our community.
