What a great day in Piqua! I sure hope that you were able to get out to the City of Piqua’s 4th Fest celebration. It was such a wonderful day here in our great city! Fountain Park was buzzing with all sorts of activities, and it was fabulous to see all who showed up for the Bike Parade with patriotic decorated bikes. I was asked to be one of the judges of the Bike Parade and boy was it tough because there were such amazing decorated bikes that day! As the parade began and headed towards Hance Pavillon, it was wonderful to walk through the event area that was full of local organizations booths of games, food and fun! I loved seeing so many of our citizens both young and old enjoying all that was offered there to celebrate our nations birthday. As always the Piqua Civic Band provided wonderful patriotic music that afternoon in Hance pavilion, and I encourage all our citizens to join them for their summer concert series on Thursday evenings (7/20, 7/27, & 8/3) at 7:00 PM in Hance Pavilion.
The evening activities were just as full with the concert in Lock 9 Riverfront Park with Mike Perkins and Paradise Island Band providing music completed by the great energy from WPTW’s Joe Laber emceeing the event. The Food Trucks provided lots of great options to choose from to eat and then of course the fireworks. People were lined up on the Shawnee Bridge and up and down the riverfront. It truly was a wonderful day and one that we, as a city, can be proud of because 4th Fest is now a great annual festival that many both from Piqua and outside our community come here to enjoy all there is to offer.
The day would not happen without the behind the scenes work for many months of our City of Piqua employees. I especially want to thank Brittany Van Horn, our public relations/special events coordinator for all she did to coordinate and oversee every single minute of the day’s events. One of my memories as I look back over the day was that everywhere I looked I saw City of Piqua employees everywhere making it all happen. From having a US flag handed to me at Fountain Park in the morning to having a glow stick handed to me that evening at Lock 9 just before the fireworks. Both the flag and glow stick were given to me with a huge smile and greeting by a City of Piqua employee. Thank you, City of Piqua employees for all you did to make the day what it was…a HUGE success! I can’t wait for 4th Fest 2018, I know it will be even better! We are very lucky to have such great employees here in the City of Piqua, and I want to offer a HUGE THANK YOU to them for all they do for us, the citizens of Piqua. THIS. Definitely Is Piqua!
